The Veiled Chameleon (Chamaeleo calyptratus) gets its name from the hat-like protrusion on its head, resembling an eboshi. In Japan, the eboshi is a traditional hat worn by nobles, samurai, and adult men from the Heian period through the Edo period.
It is famous for changing its body color depending on temperature, humidity, mood, and weather (light). Its typical color is a vivid green, but depending on the situation, yellow or orange patterns may emerge.

エボシカメレオン(veiled chameleon)の名前の由来は、頭の上に烏帽子のような突起があるため、そのように呼ばれています。日本で烏帽子とは、日本の伝統的な帽子の一つで、平安時代から江戸時代にかけて貴族や武士、成人した男性用として使用されていたものです。

温度や湿度、体調や天候(光)によって体色を変える事で有名で、代表的な体色は鮮やかな緑色ですが、状況によって黄色やオレンジの模様が浮かび上がることがあります。
