Aodaisho, the Japanese rat snake, is one of the most well-known snakes in Japan.
Its body color varies depending on the region. It can be blue, green, olive, yellow(albino),
etc.
Among them, the albino species is found around Iwakuni City in Yamaguchi
Prefecture, known as the Shirohebi , meaning “white snake.
”
Because of its divine appearance, it has long been regarded as a sacred creature.
The Shirohebi of this region was designated as a National Natural Monument in 1924 and
has been carefully protected for over a century.
